Next Stage…

In September '07, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. In an effort to maintain my sense of humor while integrating this new reality into my life, I started this blog, which has become my public journal, an opinion column, and a rough draft for my book. MS prompted this project but it's also about life in general. My life, that is.

That ain't you. :-) Perhaps someone came across your skydiving photo and passed on it, thinking it didn't "fit" the picture of MS.
ReplyDeleteJust curious: what collection were you searching on? Is it on the 'net?
Lol Pete. I guess they didn't get my power yoga poses either. I can stand on my head and balance on my arms. That might really hurt the MS image.
ReplyDeleteI agree lady WTF!
and they didn't see me after cycling 100k over two days....too bad.
ReplyDeleteS.
Thanks for agreeing with my outrage, everyone. I found the images in question on istock.com and gettyimages.com.I need to see YOUR photos, Denver and Shauna. I need to have images of active, strong people with MS so I can remember that can be me.

Remember that IS you, right now, today!
ReplyDeleteI had written an article for the local newspaper a few months ago, and when it came out, I was really unhappy at the choice of artwork they chose for it. They picked a scene of an elderly walking with a cane. I was pretty frustrated, and complained.
ReplyDeleteWell, I have MS, and I use a wheelchair but that does not represent all MS patients. It is typical of the media or other image spewers to stereotype people with disabilities, spreading fear and negative thinking. It really gives the wrong image of MS, especially because MS is unique to each individual.
ReplyDeleteIronically, I am not in a wheelchair from my MS actually BUT due to 2 other health conditions! Go figure.
